I have wanted to work as a dramaturg ever since I had my first glimpse of the role, though it’s a complicated furrow to plough in the UK.  Dramaturgy focuses on critical feedback loops to support the evolution and clarity of ideas in theatre-making, and my practice focuses on working closely with a writer or a director on the development of original work.  Dramaturgy explores the interaction of form and content, theory and practice and, as a result lends itself particularly to other work around theatre-making including theatre criticism and academic analysis, both of great interest to me.

I am also actively involved in advocacy for the practice as a member of the Dramaturgs Network since 2001. In 2007 I set up and ran England’s first professional development conference for dramaturgs  in partnership with writernet and the Soho Theatre.
